I’m Derek Mercey, and I’ve spent my career helping people navigate complex real estate decisions—from first-time buyers finding their footing, to families upsizing or downsizing, to institutional investors structuring multi-million dollar seniors' housing deals. Through it all, one thing has stayed constant: my belief that real estate is fundamentally a people business.
I didn’t start my career in residential real estate—in fact, for years, I focused almost exclusively on the highly specialized world of seniors' housing and related commercial properties. Working with buyers, sellers and developers of retirement communities, long-term care homes, and development land across Ontario gave me a deep appreciation for the strategy, market knowledge and steady hand required to guide complex transactions to a successful close.
But over time, I realized that the most rewarding moments—the ones that really stayed with me—came from the relationships I built, not just the deals I completed. And I found myself drawn more and more to the residential side of the business, where every home, every client and every decision carries its own unique story.
These days, as co-founder of The Good Life Real Estate Group, my primary focus is helping individuals, families and investors make confident, well-informed real estate decisions right here in Oakville, and the surrounding areas. Whether you’re buying your first home, selling your family property or simply planning your next move, I bring an unparalleled level of care, diligence and strategic thinking to every client and every deal.

Outside of real estate, I’m proud to call Oakville home, and when I’m not working with clients, you’ll probably find me walking the neighbourhood with my dog Louis, playing golf at the Oakville Golf Club, rockin' the guitar in a local cover band called '5HOLE' (we're a bunch of Oakville Rangers' hockey parents) or just chillin' by the pool with the family and good friends.
